Blade watched as his newfound companions raided the makeshift armory, pulling out enough weapons to start a minor war. The heavy wooden workbenches at the center of the room had been pushed together and now groaned under the weight of a vast assortment of weaponry and ammunition.

Blade was impressed. He'd only asked for an ammo refill for his new pistol and the Nightstalkers had jumped at the chance to show him how many technological advances they had made. If Blade wasn't mistaken, it was more a chance for them to show off rather than to find anything useful, but he relished the opportunity to see how far anti-vampire weaponry could be taken. Over the years, the vampires had found a way around every weapon he and Whistler had invented, from ceramic armor plates to ward off stakes, to fully insulated body suits to protect themselves from his UV torches. It was good to be given some fresh ideas.

Perhaps these Nightstalkers could be of some use to him, after all.

Hedges stood over the table, his eyes gleaming, unable to hide his pride. "We've got a wide assortment of ass-kickery for your viewing pleasure." He reached into the growing pile and hefted a strange-looking pistol with blocky rubber grips, holding it out for Blade to examine. "Electronic pistol. Comes with a built-in fingerprint security system. Fires a three-shot burst in one five-hundredths of a second. Bullets can also be triggered remotely." King ejected the clip and tossed Blade one of the bullets.

Blade caught it one handed and held the round up to the light, studying it carefully. There were seams running in a crisscross pattern around the bullet, as though it had been through several different stages of casting. Its tip was transparent, crafted out of sturdy glass. Blade understood what it was immediately. Whistler had been working on something similar just before he died. He waved the bullet at King. "Explosive rounds?"

King nodded. "But with a concentrated burst of UV light instead of your standard hollow-points. I call 'em Sundogs."

He turned and pointed to an impressive-looking weapon laid out at the opposite end of the table. "Hedges-super-size me, baby!"

Hedges tossed King an enormous, four-barreled firearm. King hefted the colossal weapon with practiced ease, buffing the casing to a gleaming finish with a corner of his T-shirt. Blade saw that there was an irreverent decal of the mud-flap girl silhouette stenciled onto the gun's stock, making the weapon look almost cartoon-like.

King stroked it lovingly. "This little peashooter-it's a modified version of the Army's Objective Individual Combat Weapon. Pick your poison: stakes, Sundogs, heat-seeking mini-rockets... Whatever gets you hard, this puppy will pump out." He gestured to Blade's sword sarcastically. "Of course, it doesn't have the range of a sword, but..."

Blade gave the grinning King a blank stare, and pretended to examine his fingernails, studying the weapon out of the corner of his eye. Already, he wanted it. Now, if he could just create some kind of a distraction...

Then Blade's eyes widened as he homed in on a different toy wielded by Hedges, a lethal-looking crescent-shaped device.
